Prof. Szymon Piotr Malinowski

Polish atmospheric physicist, professor of Earth sciences, correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2016 director of the Institute of Geophysics of the UW and since July 2023 chairman of the Problem Committee on Climate Crisis at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He works on cloud physics and atmospheric turbulence. He has worked on aspects of applied meteorology, including the interaction of cooling towers with the atmosphere. His research career is associated with the Department of Physics at the University of Warsaw. From 1990 to 1992, he worked at the Université du Québec in Montreal, he also worked as a visiting scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in the USA and as a visiting professor at the Johann Gutenberg University in Mainz. From 2002 to 2012, he served as head of the Department of Atmospheric Physics. At the Polish Academy of Sciences, he served, among others, as chairman of the Committee on Geophysics (2015-2019) and chairman of the Advisory Group on the Climate Crisis to the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2020-2022). Corresponding member of the Warsaw Scientific Society since 2011, corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2020.
